welcome to las vegas, utah.

the entire week leading up to the 4th provo natives warned us UAC residents that the 3rd and the 4th of july are absolutely insane in provo. on multiple occasions the pals and i were told that it is like the strip in vegas. to which we replied, yeah right people! this is provo utah.

fast forward now to the morning of july 3rd. i left for school at eight thirty in the morning and there were already hooligans with tents and lawn shades up all down the street. this was the first sign of what was to come.

fast forward to nine thirty at night, july third. after a terrifying thirty minutes in which i thought i lost my wallet, the pals went to applebees for karaoke. emerging from the apartments we realized how packed it was. now when i say packed i mean shoulder to shoulder, no empty grass, couches and lawn chairs all over packed. us saint georgians could not stop laughing because of how insane it was. maybe these provo folks that warned us aren't so crazy after all? regardless, we pressed onward with out night.

fast forward to midnight. back from karaoke we decided to take a lap around the block just to soak in the whole ambiance, if we are living in the middle of it we might as well experience the craziness right?

laura had previously walked down the streets with other friends and warned us not to go.

we should have listened to her.

on we went, pushing our way through crowds and holding tight to each others arms so we wouldn't get separated. only a block away from the apartments we were hit with the smell of alcohol and other choice "herbs" so we (alicia, mike, michael and i) decided we had had enough. quickly our direction changed and we were pushing ourselves back through the crowds from where we had just come.

alicia and i lead the way and suddenly found ourselves in the middle of a fight circle. if you have attended middle school you should know what this is, if you have attended middle school and never witnessed this please inform me where you went to school so i can send my future children there.

this particular fight circle was formed around two girls. alicia and i got right in the thick of it without even realizing. the girls were spitting and swearing at each other. then out came the claws. the hair was being pulled and the punches were being thrown. i froze, had no clue what to do, alicia pulled me back in the direction we had just come from.

just as we started to push our way out of the circle the girls were split up by someone and one of the girls passed right next to me. well...girl number two decided she wasn't done with their business. she charged at the girl standing next to me and took a nice swing at her.

she missed.

she landed her punch right on my left shoulder. solid.

i freaked, grabbed alicia's hand and took off in a full sprint leaving the boys in the middle of the brawl.

needless to say. listen to the provo natives. they will keep you safe.

we went to bed around two in the morning and were up by six thirty in the morning to go to the balloon festival. i have an obsession with hot air balloons. ever since i was younger i have thought they were so cool and since my parasailing adventure in hawaii my love for hot air balloons has heightened, i am addicted to floating high in the air looking back down on the beautiful earth. honestly, my dream proposal would definitely include a hot air balloon ride. no joke.

after the festival we headed home to make breakfast and then headed out to watch the parade! nie nie was grand marshall with her darling fam.

fast forward to ten thirty in the morning, july 4th. after eating our weight in otter pops we decided we had seen enough parade and that we didn't want to melt any more. so us pals headed inside and all passed out on the couch and floor to semi recuperate.
